Chuckanut Drive Drivers

Chuckanut Drive runs between a sandstone cliff face and Samish Bay, and it hands vehicles both problems at once. From the uphill side: constant rock and grit fall onto the roadway, kicked up into rocker panels, lower doors and front ends at speed. From the water side: salt air straight off the bay with no barrier at all. The road is narrow, shaded and damp for most of the year, so contamination stays wet on the paint rather than drying and blowing off.

The cars here make it matter more. Chuckanut is a driver's road, and it attracts exactly the vehicles that deserve protection — sports cars, classics, weekend cars kept in good condition and driven for pleasure. Those vehicles typically wear deep, dark or single-stage paint that shows every defect and rewards proper multi-stage correction. They are also frequently stored between drives, which brings its own preparation requirements.
