Overview

The roof fails first. Almost nobody looks at it.

An RV is a building that drives, and it fails like one. The most expensive damage almost never starts on the panels people look at — it starts on the roof, where nobody looks until water is inside. EPDM and TPO membranes chalk and degrade under UV, sealant beads around vents, skylights and the AC unit shrink and crack, and once water finds a seam it travels through the structure long before it shows on a ceiling panel. Getting eyes on the roof twice a year is the single highest-value thing an owner can do.

The visible problems are their own category. Fiberglass sidewalls oxidize into the same chalky haze as a boat hull, only across a far larger surface. Black streaks run down from every roof edge, awning rail and window — that is roof runoff carrying degraded sealant and oxidized membrane, which is why streaks come straight back if you only wash them off and never address what is above. Factory decals and graphics fade, crack and lift, and once a decal has gone brittle no amount of polishing brings it back.

Then there is how RVs live in Whatcom County. Most sit far more than they roll — parked at home, in storage, or on a seasonal site at Birch Bay or Lynden, frequently under trees. Sitting under conifers means sap, needle debris in every seam and roof channel, and moss and algae taking hold along the shaded side and the roof edge. Sitting through nine wet months means moisture in the cabin, mildew in soft goods, and slide-out seals that dry, crack and stop sealing.

A full oxidation restoration on a 30-foot coach is a serious job measured in days, not hours. It is also a job that only has to be done once if it is protected afterwards — a ceramic coating over restored fiberglass slows the UV breakdown that caused the oxidation in the first place and turns future washes from a weekend into an afternoon.

The process

Every step, in order

  1. 01

    Walkaround & roof inspection

We get on the roof first. Sealant condition, membrane state and seam integrity decide what the job actually is.

  2. 02

    Wash & decontamination

Full wash top down, bug and tar removal on the front cap, and treatment of black streaking at the source.

  3. 03

    Oxidation assessment

Test section on the sidewalls to determine how much compounding the fiberglass needs and can take.

  4. 04

    Compound & polish

Multi-stage compounding on oxidized panels, then polish to gloss. Decals worked around carefully.

  5. 05

    Roof treatment

Membrane cleaned and treated, with any failing sealant flagged in writing so you can address it before water does.

  6. 06

    Seals, awnings & slides

Slide-out seals cleaned and conditioned, awning fabric cleaned, rubber and trim treated.

  7. 07

    Protection

Sealant or ceramic coating on restored surfaces so the oxidation clock resets rather than restarting immediately.

Super friendly, great work, best price. Offered very clear instructions on what they would proceed, options, even suggested a less expensive option for me. Honest, friendly, professional. And my car looks amazing!

I had tried for months to remove 10+ bumper stickers from the back of my car to no avail. They went the extra mile and the back of my car is now completely free of all stickers and residue. Fantastic customer service.

They did an amazing job and went above and beyond to work on my car right around the holidays. They took extra steps to work with my schedule which I deeply appreciated. I definitely recommend Albrecht!

FAQ

Questions, answered

RVs are priced per foot because length is what actually drives the labour. A recurring wash starts around $22 per foot, oxidation restoration from $55, and restoration with ceramic coating from $80. A 30-foot coach and a 42-foot fifth wheel are genuinely different jobs, and condition moves the number as much as length does.
