Every winter weekend, the Baker run coats vehicles in the most abrasive mix this county produces: traction sand ground fine by traffic, magnesium-chloride de-icer that clings and keeps pulling moisture onto the paint all week, and slush spray that freezes into panels and pulls contamination in as it melts. The rest of the year the corridor is cabin country: vehicles parked under deep conifer shade for weeks, collecting sap and needle acid, then driven hard back down the mountain.
